Coming to Sinidad was by far one of the best choices Finn had ever made in his life. The freedom of not constantly being pestered and bugged by his mother is always a plus too. The sun was bright as he walked along the road, coming up to the hill that the regional lab stood upon. A whistle escaped his lips as he looked up, maybe it was just from the angle that he was at that made the hill look so steep and the lab so far away. He was going to overcome this first obstacle, because it was an easier one of course.
With one big, deep breath he took his first step up the hill and towards a new stepping stone in his adventure. "I can only go uphill from here!" He grinned, quickening his pace. The green-haired trainer then paused and bit his lip at the saying, which replayed in his head. "Did I really just say that?" Finn chuckled. The saying sounded a lot better in his head that it did coming out.
Brushing off his first act of idiocy as he reached the top of the hill, the trainer walked up to the doors bright-eyed and ready for his Pokemon. What seemed like years was just merely seconds as the sliding doors parted and Finn took a step into the lobby of the lab. With hesitation and even attention the trainer blurted, "Hi I'm Finn. I'm here about a starter?"
Maybe he should have checked out behind the desk to see if anyone was there before he started talking randomly. That was pretty much a strike two on the idiocy.
The young man that sat behind the counter barely peered over his small glasses as Finn entered. He noted the green hair, but little else. He was just another young person hoping to make their Pokemon related dreams come true. He nodded at him, and continued typing behind the computer screen. He clucked his tongue softly, and ran one finger through his dark hair. "I know why you're here. This computer program will randomize ten available options for you. Choose wisely."
Derek was very... precise. Everything had to be perfect. When he came on duty was the only time the desk was straightened, and he was the reason the laboratory stayed so shockingly clean. He glanced down at the boy's shoes. Surely he had tracked snow in. The cold weather was miserable, because not only did he have to deal with Mulberry making a mess of the place, but these kids were bringing in dirty snow constantly.
He tapped out a few more things before turning the flat screen to face Finn, showing him his options.
The man took Finn by a bit of a surprise. He was quick and to the point, knowing what to do and how to do it. After a quick second of typing Finn was faced with a screen showing ten Pokemon he could choose for himself as a starter. The options were varied and that made things harder for the trainer to decide. His finger hoovered over the screen going from Pokemon to Pokemon, back and worth.
What felt like another few years was just merely seconds when his finger finally stopped on his choice. "This one," Finn grinned, "Ralts, that's who I'll start with." His choice was going to be the Feeling Pokemon, someone Finn could see himself going to great heights with.
With a gigantic grin on his face the trainer gave the lab assistant a glance after he told him his choice. "This is exciting, huh?"
[ I'm so sorry I wasn't on yesterday Damon! I have been so so sick! ]
Unlike many of the other helpers around the laboratory, Derek already had everything prepared. He merely dipped one hand under the table before pulling the pack up and sliding it towards Damon, never blinking an eye. He stared at the boy as he spoke. "Yes, very exciting. It was nice whenever I did it." He looked away for a moment before clearing his throat. "Everything you need, including your Pokeball, is in the bag. It's all free. Do you have any more questions?"
Personally, Derek didn't enjoy this part of the job. These young adults were normally very disrespectful or ungrateful for what Mulberry was doing for them, and as strange as the Professor was, Derek would have protected her to his death.
[ The only move Ralts knows at Lvl 5 is Growl, so I'm giving you Confusion, which Ralts will learn at Lvl 6. ]
Taking his starter pack the trainer shook his head, "No questions." He bowed and said his goodbyes to the lab assistant, "Thank you for everything and give my thanks to Professor Mulberry too." He turned around and strutted out the sliding doors. Holding his new partner's Pokeball in hand he smiled brightly.
In one quick motion he tossed the ball into the air and a crimson light shot to the ground, forming a silhouette of Ralts, his new Pokemon. As the tiny, Feeling Pokemon fully appeared it glared up at it's trainer with a cocky smirk and a nod of the head. It patted its' chest and chuckled, something Finn found comical. Ralts were usually calm, quirky, and very shy or from what he knew, but this one was extremely different.
"You're a cocky little one aren't yah?"
"I'm not cocky, I'm strong!" The little Ralts boasted, "They call me Beau!"
"Beau, huh? I'm Finn. It's a pleasure to meet you." The trainer knelt down and threw out his hand to the little Pokemon, smiling. Beau returned the respectful gesture and shook Finn's hand, still confidently smiling.
